Buying
Alpacas Made Simple & for Less
We select high quality alpacas that are owned by breeders who find
themselves in the need of downsizing for a variety of reasons. After I
personally interview them about their herd history, the
dam's breeding and birthing experience, the seller and I come
to an agreement on the best price for the animals. We then put a group
together to create a starter package and offer them to you, our
preferred clients. The price to you represents a recent reduction
of at least 40% - 70% off or more. Generally speaking you are able to
purchase multiple alpacas at a price equivalent to a single alpaca.
Huacaya Fleece
The huacaya's fleece should be:
fine, dense, uniform, and grow perpendicular to the skin. The fleece,
which grows from individual follicles in the skin, should be made up of
defined staples of crimpy "bundled" fleece. These bundles
should organize themselves into staples which create a dense
presentation across the animal. The huacaya alpaca should be well
covered with a soft, uniform fleece, except on the ears and the bridge
of the nose of mature animals. The muzzle and ears should be soft to the
touch. The alpaca has a well-defined crimp in their top knot,
which continues down the neck, into the blanket the belly, and on to the
tail. There should be very little medulation. The fleece should be
well-nourished, exhibit a brightness or sheen, and be void of dull, dry,
chalky fiber. The huacaya will produce fleece as soft and as fine
as cashmere. Huacaya alpaca is spun into luxury garments that can be
worn close to the skin.
Suri Alpacas... A Rarer Breed
In general suri alpacas have no crimp in their fleeces. Their fiber clings to itself, forming beautiful "pencil locks" that hang down from the body in gentle, silky cascades. According to the
Suri Network its artistic style enhances the graceful appearance of the animal compared to the soft, wooly look of huacaya alpacas.
Suri fiber is in demand and consistently brings a premium price in the fiber market. Suri alpacas emanate extraordinary vigor, intelligence, ease of breeding, and adaptability to hot and cold climates. These attributes rank high on the list of many reasons for treasuring Suri alpacas.
The fiber of suri alpacas is coveted by the fashion industry and cherished by the hand spinner. Its softness of cashmere, luster of silk, warmth and featherweight of goose down, durability of wool, and its ability to accept color dyeing makes it a favorite of all fiber enthusiasts. Suri fiber blends well with wool and other fine fiber, including silk, and the yarn can be knit, crocheted, or woven.
Testimonials
Seller
My experience working with Julie Roy has been GREAT! She is very knowledgeable about alpacas, professional and polite – a pleasure to work with! If she was ever busy, she would get right back to me as if I were her only client.
She was able to help me sell 3 females with crias and place them in a good home. Julie found a buyer and helped negotiate a good deal for both buyer and seller. Julie, in my case, went far beyond the call of duty! She’s been helpful to me beyond words.
